Direct-to-Fan Music Platform
Fans buy straight from artists; artists keep 100% of their masters.
Bolobo World Music is an artist-first music company: its artists keep 100% of their masters and earn 60% of net music sales. We built the platform that makes that model work — the fan-facing store and communities, the artist dashboard and payouts, and the admin panel behind it all.
Bolobo wanted one platform to sell music directly, pay artists a fair and visible share, grow fan communities and promote concerts — without asking artists to give up ownership of their work.
We built a mobile-responsive web platform with three experiences — a fan app, an artist dashboard and an admin panel — on Supabase, with Stripe for checkout and artist payouts, Cloudflare R2 for audio and Cloudinary for artwork.
What we delivered
The impact Bolobo World Music has on the people who use it every day.
Artists see exactly how each sale is split, down to the processing fee.
Free previews turn listeners into buyers — no subscription needed to own music.
A feed, artist communities and rewards give fans a reason to come back.
Nothing goes live until the Bolobo team has approved it.
A closer look at the experiences that make Bolobo World Music work.
Fans — and guests without an account — land on a home screen of new drops, continue-listening, curated albums, trending songs and upcoming concerts, with promo billboards managed by the Bolobo team.
A discover page and search surface spotlight tracks and featured artists, with filters for country and genre and sorting by trending, newest or most followed.
Every artist has a public profile with followers, supporters, plays and releases, tabs for music, albums, concerts, posts and videos, and a leaderboard of their top supporters.
Anyone can play a 30-second preview of an approved track. Fans buy songs or whole albums with Stripe in their local currency, and full playback is unlocked for good — an album purchase unlocks every track on it.
A public page walks fans and artists through exactly where the money goes: the price, the payment-processing fee, the net revenue, and the 60% artist / 40% Bolobo split of what remains.
Upcoming concerts are listed with venues, countdowns and venue tickets from approved partners, and appear on each artist's profile. Live streaming and an on-demand concert library are staged on the platform as “coming soon”.
Artists and fans post text, images and video clips to a feed with likes and comments, while featured campaigns, next-on-stage countdowns and suggested artists keep it moving.
Bolobo is an exclusive label, so artists apply through a multi-step application with their details, profile and music samples. Their account stays locked until an admin approves it.
Fans earn points for purchases and for friends who join with their invite link. Lifetime spend moves them through platform-wide fan tiers, and separate supporter badges track how much they back each individual artist.
Artists upload singles and albums, manage their catalogue and posts, see sales and supporter analytics, and request withdrawals — paid out to their own verified Stripe Connect account once an admin approves.
The Bolobo team reviews artist applications and music uploads, approves withdrawals, moderates posts, manages users, concerts, billboards and featured artists, and follows revenue and signups — behind two-factor sign-in.

Great products hide a lot of careful engineering. Here's what it took to make this one fast, secure and reliable.
Stripe webhooks run in Supabase Edge Functions, and one Postgres function records the sale, the 60/40 split, the artist's earnings and the fan's points together.
Spend, tier and points columns are locked from the client at column level, so they only change through a confirmed purchase or referral.
Full tracks stay private in Cloudflare R2 and stream through signed URLs that expire after an hour — only for fans who bought them.
Every table has RLS, so unapproved artists and tracks are invisible to fans and each user can only read their own private data.
Artists onboard to Stripe Connect, so admins approve transfers without ever seeing an artist's bank account, and the admin role is checked server-side.
Tier thresholds and points rules live in database tables, so the team can change them without a redeploy.
